Ok here is the question,
If we had the opportunity to bring aboard Adultbouncer additional filming studios for licensed content only using the WMV format (the videos would stop working after the Adultbouncer member has expired)
We ONLY have this opporunity if our content is protected with the subscription model only available through WMV format. This is solely the only reason we have switched to WMV format in past content. We have switched back to MPEG now until more tests have been processed and so forth.
However we will STILL get more licensed content, im just saying studios out of reach using MPEG or DIVX or something and not protected wont be licensable unless it is protected.
Please answer the poll.

Ok let me get this straight. Some studios will only license their stuff to AB if we use .wmv for their stuff? If that's the case, then I would say to use .wmv for their stuff. If another studio doesn't care how we encode it then use avi or mpeg. I voted, "I don't care" just because, after all this time I excepted the fact that .wmv is just the way it's gonna be and now you say in one post that we're switching back to mpeg but then in the very next sentence you say that then we'll switch back to .wmv? So I don't care how they're encoded. I think what's important is doing what the particular studio wants done so we can be licensed for the videos. So what if some are mpeg and some wmv who cares? More movies, GOOD. Less movies, BAD, mmmkay??? You're the boss, whatever you say as long I still get the bikini girl at the convention :D

nonono ..
Some studios dont care about digital rights and some do. If we had WMV we will have the opportunity to bring into AB content that we could not. Alot of studios want their content protected and only WMV does this.

Why nononono? encode the video's that need to be wmv with the security. Whatever it takes to make the deal. I'm all for it!!!

I am not picky when it comes to the type of format the movie content is in (as long as it is something workable). However, I do not think that security protected WMV files would go over too well... especially since people are paying for a membership. "Shareware" movies that you have to pay for? That would piss a lot of members off.
AB-Rob
09-27-2002, 05:48 PM
Shareware movies? If a user cancels what would you care anyhow?
They arent bringinng you revenue. We are also not advertising the fact that the movies are unplayable after 30 days.
Everything will be the same to the end-user and movies will continue to work as long they stay as a member. Many larger sites are already converting to this method, itll take a few years to flow through but youll start to see alot of protected movies popping up on kazaa and stuff and im for it. Itll bring profitability of porn back up.
People continue the way they are and youll fall into the picture era where you'll get conversions like your trying to sell pictures to there point where its not worth it anymore.

Damn good points.
One question comes to mind... Once the member cancels and discovers his movies no longer play after 30 days, will he become bitter and boycott, or will he realize he better join up again?

depends on the person......not each one will think the same.

once they realize they can't find the content anywhere else but on an adultbouncer site....
they will join back....

I voted no, and I'd probably fuck a goat to get rid of this damn format. Perhaps it's due to the fact that I have not yet seen a properly encoded movie, but still not being able to search for the moneyshot in reasonable time.
I've asked and asked if this is my crappy player or if it's like that. I found a button in AsfTools 'Make seekable', and I felt happiness for a second, until I pressed it and the box was telling me that it was seekable... hell no. Perhaps seekable enough for a really retarded person, but no for an average wanker like myself.
Also it seems like a tough job to encode it. I've downloaded 11 titles now in this format, and they all look like crap. You could get a crystal clear still, but when it moves..., well moves, it's 10-15 stills a second. Perhaps I'm the retard just not knowing how to do, but I doubt the average person online knows more.

Kristian Tarning
PS. If I'd go for the goat thing... I'll shoot it and release it in DivX =)

Meant to say go wmv if they meet the requirements mentioned in my previous post. Not to mention doing it this way saves each webmaster time re-encoding.

I get first dibs on the goat video!
I've been real lucky with the wmv files, the two bad ones I got are one about serveilance and the other is real first timers. this one, even the pics suck. I just spent three hours trying to make them look almost decent. I get pissed off at the format sometimes just because it really is hassle but in the end I look at it like this, it's free. No other avs offers it's webmasters more. I know this because when I lost my archive and the three weeks of work I lost and the 6 gigs I had just uploaded I thought fuck it I'm outta here. I had a few friends say, try this or that avs. I looked at all of them I think, and no one comes close to offering what ab does. Not to mention the other places don't come with a freak, arun and a nero to pic on when shit goes bad. So I'll take whatever AB gives me, make lots of money and then if I really can't stand it I'll just go buy my own movies. But Rob and Arun have been so quick to help me with the issue and marco getting my replacment movies authorized. I just can't complain. And no Rob isn't paying me to say this (though a donation would be greatly appreciated Rob)

I have not had one member say anything negative about the new fornmat and i think the mere fact that the movies or clips are BAM! in the face of the member so much quicker and i only hate the fact that iam having a hell of a time with the microsoft encoder and i lost it recently to a big CRASH! Why did you take the url for the encoder off of the content page? If you can put it back up there as i think that it would be a help to webmaster and member alike! Like Forrest Gump said lives like a box of chocolates and so is wmv if its good then eat it!
DARNPJ 8)
Just learning this webmaster stuff for the first time through adultbouncer and I just started getting comfortable with the avi stuff. cuttin up, getting stills, resizing, etc. etc. Now with this .wmv stuff, I've got to learn all these new programs, tricks and techniques, etc. It's bogged me right down, Do I re-encode, change format, ahhh. But if it stays with wmv files . In the long run I believe Rob is right. If the movies stop from working, (was that after 30 days after membership or immediatly after membership ends?) sure that will piss some people off, but porn is like a drug, they are going to need there fix and I think they'll be back. The other avs networks involved with Video/Movies though would have to also go with the same format or Adultbouncer could be left out in the cold. (I think Rob did mention some were already changing over) As of right now, either formats ok with me. I'll teach myself to get comfortable with this .wmv format.

It really isnt fair to compare these new wmv files to the previous mpeg4v2 files we were accustomed to. marco was encoding the mpeg files at a bitrate of 170 to 190kb/s - these wmv files were encoded at less than half that rate. Of course they dont look as good - no mystery here. both divx 311 and wmv (version 1 or 2) are based on the mpeg4 base format. they both compress video a comparable amount; If you ran these wmv encodes at a similar rate to the mpeg4v2 files - they would look surprisingly similar. (you would still have that silly lag before the file plays - otherwise it would look fairly decent).
Most complaints against wmv are based purely on emotional reasons and not the hard technical issues involved in video encoding.
I personally dont care what the files are encoded with as long as the finished product is something I can sell.

i guess im all for it, as long as we get good content coming in and everything is in good quality, go for it. I dont have too many problems with wmv, but i know many people that do. Too bad mpegs or avis have a protection feature...Then eveyone would be happy.

After downloading those huge 700+ meg non searchable wmv's I was against it, but after learning that it wasnt you guys whom encoded them all fubarbed, but some sillly webmaster and after downloading a few wmv's that you AB guys did encode (nice 25 meg ones fully searchable decent quality too at 200%) Im all for the wmv format if it gets us more content. In the words of my new found idol PervMaker:
" I don't care how they're encoded. I think what's important is doing what the particular studio wants done so we can be licensed for the videos. So what if some are mpeg and some wmv who cares? More movies, GOOD. Less movies, BAD."
Right Friggin On!
toke out...
By the way, how you gonna make sure that some of the webmasters dont reencode them and cause a bunch of leggal issues in doing so? Or is that an impossability?

by the way, today I downloaded 2 of my selected movies (@ ms.adultbouncer.com). One is really good in sound and picture-quality and the other looks clear but the sound is really bad: a lot of distortion --> "Devil In Her Body". :(
What I'd like to know, is there a way to exchange this one or redownload a new and better encoded version of the movie without loosing my credits?
thx in advance

You should email Marco at mdasc@adultbouncer.com with the same description as you gave here. I think he has pretty much to do though, so you sholdn't expect an answer to fast. I guess you could email content@adultbouncer.com as well, but I think that's Marco again.

If you see periodic sybase errors we are tweaking the click tracking.
It doesnt affect signups.
We moved it to a new server and some things broke along the way.

i have to agree with perv that i don't really care about the format as long as we get a great choice of movies. i am sure that most of our members would have to agree that it's not the format of the movies but the variety of content available. more movies = very good!!!
i have been very lucky with the wmv movies that i have recieved as they look great and the file size is much smaller than the original avi's that i was getting (about half) the only bad thing about the wmvs is the lag in viewing but hopefully if the viewer looses a few strokes they may stay members for a little longer
anyways, that's just my 2 cents (and being cdn that ain't much  )

Could someone please just give me the short version of how the WMV file format works, and how it prevents users from viewing movies after they have cancelled their account? WMV isn't a streaming media, so how does it work?

I'm not 100% sure about how AB's works, but generally WMV & WMA security works by your player searching the internet or local network for a 'key' before playing.
[It's all part of M$'s plan for world domination, they want WM9 to eventually be included in every CD & DVD player we buy, so no-one can pirate music videos (and M$ get even richer). You can read more info about it here: http://news.independent.co.uk/digital/features/story.jsp?story=333810 ]

I figured that's what we were talking about. DRM is something I've encountered a lot lately, more though with software piracy and music than with video. The premise, and the conclusion, is the same, though. I am all for using the WMV format, but only because using the format allows us AB webmasters to obtain more content to sell. DRM just isn't possible when the end-user has full control over the hardware, software, or content in question. The DVD compression format, as well as the "new" Windows XP activation method, are two examples of failed attempts to prevent media and software privacy. Both have been compromised; in the case of the XP activation, it was done within days of the XP release date. Using the WMV format is fine (even though it WILL piss off former customers), as long as everybody understands that it will not prevent piracy, or unauthorized viewing of the video content. It seems, though, that a larger concern to the studios, not us. If it makes them happy, then f**k it. Why not? :)
well..I find manipulating avi and mpeg files much easier in respect to creating samples, screen caps, etc..however...if the only way some studios will come aboard is by using the wmv encoding system..I am all for it..especially if it gives us access to some fresh, high quality smut from some premiere studios...I say do it bro.. 8)

Just a note: M$ has their new Windows Media Encoder Beta available for download. Also you can download all their old encoders as well from their web site. That might make using wmv files easier for you.

Three things:
1. The quality/encoding of the movie has nothing to do with the actual format layer. WMV and AVI can both contain most compressions.
2. WMV is a propretairy Microsoft format. Microsoft has strongly restricted access to its formats to other developers in the past and discontinued support for certain format/codec combinations for political reasons. (MPEG 4 V3 and AVI being one example)
3. Publishing windows media formats encourages users to use the MS Media Player or even requires it. That player is known to "phone home", meaning it's spyware.
Protecting intellectual property is a good thing, but intruding a users privacy beyond his influence and giving control of the whole process to a company known to do everything they can get away with is a very bad thing.
In short, no WMV will ever get close to my site. Then again, I am not using AB content either, so I don't care too much. ;-)

Oh, and besides: There is no protection that can't be cracked. If you can play it once you can always play it.
Sorta like PACE Interlok: Buy the software, install the crack. ;-)
TS
I think you should make a poll at the ab main page and ask your current members what they think about wmv if it's good or bad...
Another question ... If the new files will be protected that they can't be viewed after caneling the membership how can I use these files to make small sample movies and post them to MGPs if no one could watch them :?:

I think they're planning on making wmv previews for us? I know that one of the movies I downloaded last month had a folder with some preview clips already made, that was so cool and it saved me hours in the making of a gallery because they were just right the sizes for gallery submissions. No converting from the big wmv to an avi file and so on. So I imagine they will continue to make the preview clips as the new ones come in.
PlayTeen
10-18-2002, 07:44 PM
Cool, but were there different sizes in the clips?
Some MGP's want:
10 clips of 200-500kb
5 clips of 1MB
3 clips of 2 MB
One clip of a least 3MB
... and so on.
