View Full Version : FTP problems to temp site.
I have been able to ftp files up to my temp site however I can not download the same file, I get the below error. I'm trying to use an editing package that loads and saves directly to the ftp site so that I can edit the files from anywhere without having to take a copy of the site with me.
The error is -
connecting to 209.67.61.18:15422
Connected to 209.67.61.18 port 15422
RETR index.htm
550-Sorry, but the upload/download ratio is 1:1 .
550-You currently uploaded 0 Kb and downloaded 0 Kb.
550 Please upload some goodies and try leeching later.

My best advice to you is....
You want to always keep an updated copy of your site locally...trust me...servers do crash, server discs break, mechanical parts wear out and shit happens...there are more than a few of us that have lost our whole site due to an unforseen incident (for me it was a server disc breaking).
It doesn't happen often...but it does happen.
I don't believe AB keeps backups of our sites anymore...but i could be wrong. The backups that were kept were like 6-8 months old and i had redesigned my site like 4 times in that span...boy was i glad i had a local copy of my site.

Hi, what is your siteid and are you trying to ftp to your test site or preview site or members site?

If thats the test site that means your trying to download stuff when you never uploaded anything.
We do this to prevent people from creating warez sites on our Test FTP server. Its happened before.
Ok I think I know what's happening then. Does the upload/download check work based on the CURRENT connection? I suspect what may be happening is that I'm uploading all my files waiting a few minutes and my connection times out. Ten when I'm going back to edit the ratio has been reset.
If this is the case and if it's only on the test site then I'm fine. Just wanted to know if it's likely to be a problem once i go live.
BTW - I'd never consider just leaving everything on the server. It's just conveniant to be able to directly edit when I'm away from my main computer and then take a snapshot of everything that's changed in the system when I get back
You’ll have to excuse some of the questions, I’m not complaining about any of it, just trying to work out the rules :)
i think the test ftp only allows so much space you dont need much just replace the pics with placeholders till you get your site approved and are on the main servers.

That ratio system only applies to the test server ftP :) Once your live you have no ratio restrictions.
