I have problems playing the new DRM content..
When trying to play a movie, Windows Media Player is trying to grab a license, but nothin happens. It only appears a grey window-box..
Anyone else has this problem ??
depends you just might be missing a codec thats not on microsofts codec list. i had to get xvid to watch some movies it wouldnt play in windows media and i got an error when it tried to find the codec but once i installed the codec everything worked fine.

I don't think it's the codecs, cause all other movies play.
It just doesn't do anything when trying to get the license
oh sorry i read ur post wrong. :D

Please try installing windows media player 9 from the http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/player.aspx
if there are further issues after that, please notify me.

Do me a favour and install the windows language through the control panel.
So it shows EN as a choice in the language bar.

I changed it to EN but it still won't play
do you have an firewall installed or a router ??
look loke it is impossible to get the license through a firewall. I tried license on other content same problem, just a grey window with nothing in it and the play button is disabeled.
until now no one could help me.
sorry seems tobe the wrong idea! I just found out that the html code which should be displayed is transmitted, but it does not appear in the window.
I used a port sniffer and analyzed the tcp packets. thinking about a problem with the media player I reinstalled it complitly with no effect. just the same problem. the html code is recieved but the media player shows only a grey window with an disabled play button.

We know why its happening.
Install this patch:
I get a blank screen when playing DRM movies.
Please apply recent patches from Microsoft and this in particular :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=AF9CF65E-0C55-452E-A0FA-3AA165E667C1&displaylang=en
Besides that make sure your date/time is current on the PC. If it was wrong then you move the data ahead itll screw up the licensing.

im out of ideas then
try on a laptop or another pc .. besides that im stumped
we dont get many issues in customer service from members..luckily its only one in like 100000
i had a user that had a problem grabbing the license, i think he said he updated the drm was like a patch or codec or something fixed his problem he updated it manually because his windows media wouldnt get it itself.
i tried it on three pcs, all with the german xp and media player version, all updates and bugfixes are installed. problem happens on all three. i still tried to completely reinstall the media player german, english and french version. nothing happens.
as i said before the tcp packets are correct, the html code seems to be correct but it is not shown in the window.

Ahh that explains it.
Some reason its a german related thing.
If you can install all english packs into your PC that might solve it.
heres how i fixed my windows media when i couldnt get the license go to tools - options - on the player tab make sure "connect to the internet(overrides other commands)" is checked and play the video again should fix the problem. may fix others as well.

Got it finally !!
It's a problem only existing with the german windows version !
This patch fixes it :
http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/4/8/8489ceba-e0e9-404b-9d50-5bc84a287035/WindowsMedia9-KB822620-x86-DEU.exe
"The play button is enabled too early" What a fucking description ! No wonder, nobody found that patch before...
