Upselling is allowed in the preview area. The only stipulation is that you keep your site clean looking. In the member area, the only upsells allowed are the AB store - http://www.retailadult.com & penis pills.

does this include redirects to non ab sites in the preview area as well, say advertising a specific event/site?

Please give more detail, what do you mean?
i think he means banners or links that will go to another site.
but it would be better to have it as a pop up window so that your site is still there instead of the user leaving to another site.

IMO your site's primary objective is to sell the AB membership and not penis pills or vibrating dildos or whatever.
In my opinion, putting upsells in your preview area might get you a few sales here and there, but it could possibly distract your customer from getting the membership, and that is where you are going to make most of your money from.
Putting upsells in the members area is fine becuse they already have the membership. But why would you want to steer potential ab customers away. If you really wanted to focus on another sponsor, just use thier hosting and BW and start a CJ or MGP site.

If you want to be clever, I wouldn't reccommend upsells to sponsors on AB sites. The only reason for this as far as I am concerned is due to the distasteful nature of such promotion, AB sites in general are clean and surfer friendly, which is a part of the whole appeal of AB sites to there members.
If any of you have read any of my posts you will know I am a firm beliver of upsells, especially on AVS sites, just not ab, there are more beneficial ways to utilise your AB members traffic, but like I say, certain AVS services I do take the piss :-)
Personally I would do this, if you want to get a few more bucks out of your site-
Build a freesite/tgp/cj/linklist site and link to it from your members area, Like "more quality links from Martay Here" or something like that.
OK, lets elaborate a little, I will focus on a LinkList, some members here have done this already, so feel free to pitch in some thoughts as I will only touch on it.
So, you build a LinkList site, with a couple of subtly placed sponsor banners, as well as a few banners to your absite and then its up to you how you get some traffic to it, other than your link on your members area. One good way, would be to swap links with other ab members, where they could put a link to your linklist in there members area and you could put a link for them on your site, whether that be link to there ab site or to there gallery or freesite, whatever but then you can get a flow of traffic going like that..
Actually, after reading through my post just now, I have come to realise that I am just talking about something I know nothing about, so please, just disregard all that waffle and go about your business :-)
Ciao

BTW I have several CJ sites Dread Man, but not really suitable for posting here so if you want info on CJ let me know, although I will be first to admit that it is a very debatable means of promotion, can result in large quantitys of traffic and high high conversions which I personally hate.
But, they can be another source of income, if done right, you need your own hosting really though.
Infact, come to think of it, theres quite a few different types of promotion I have spoke about in here which really do require your own hosting, If anyone in here is having difficulty with getting a hosting provider and wants to use one let me know as I may be able to strike a deal with you on some hosting, I dont do it as a main enterprize but a mutually beneficial deal for both parties(you and I) wouldnt be hard to come up with, so, hit me on the email at martay@beavergirlz.com and tell me why YOU need some hosting!!!
