View Full Version : Webmaster Rant

I'm sorry this is going to come across as a webmaster rant, but i feel yet again we are beta testers and let down.
I've just been emailed this:
"Hello. I'm trying to access your site as an Adultbouncer member, but in clicking on any DVD link from your main page gives a programming error - a bunch of HTML code gibberish.
Would you please email me once you've corrected the problem?
Many thanks,
Andrew"
So I login to my private area and try downloading a few movies, all looks fine. But then I notice the headers aren't loading, or any other ssi include which contain menus and things. So I thought ok i'll contact adultbouncer support via icq.
Here is the response:
Adultbouncer Support (10:27 PM) :
we do not provide ssi
Supafly (10:29 PM) :
You do, it's on the preview and members areas on my other sites. Even Rob says ssi is allowed and available. Site has been running with ssi includes for well over a year now.
Adultbouncer Support (10:34 PM) :
now we have different system of authorization of customers, from now on your prv area will stop to understand ssi
Changing to an authorization system that doesn't allow ssi is stupid, as many webmasters like me have relied upon ssi to create sites that are easily updated, it's almost as important as having css stylesheets.
Without ssi includes my sites are fucked as members won't be able to navigate properly or see many other things.
And another thing with this new 'authorization system', I was only able to login to 1 of my sites, the other 2 sites all hanged on the login.php page displaying:
"The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings..."

I logged into the members area of 21494 and the movie member reported having problems with worked fine for me on page cumback-pussy-29.shtml
All my sites members areas did have ssi working, now they don't. Can you have them moved back to a server that supports ssi?

same with my members area, all of a sudden it's only a 404 page.
that's not very polite to change someone's server behavior without letting him know.
please move my site to such a php server as well. thanks

I thought I was the only one having problems with this, it's not about ssi though.
I've noticed that alot I had alot of chargebacks and cancelations the last 3 days so I started to check if everything was allright and I found out that my members area/content server had stopped working simply saying "URL / not found". I then asked ab support and they couldn't fix it so instead they decide to move all my own purchased content to an unprotected directory on my preview server?? insane..

That's what annoyed me. Changing the server behaviour (preventing ssi code working) is a pretty major thing especially when you have a few hundred pages utilising ssi code.

About the 404's, Are you sure you have an 'index.html' ?

the only thing i can think of is we switched to a new webserver apache
any files making use of SSI need to be named .shtml now. We are moving to apache to allow the "one login to all sites" auth system
try to rename your files to .shtml
if ssi was enabled on members should before it shouldnt of been
also ssi has nothing to do with the contentserver so im stumped on that ?
also no content should be within a non-protected area

Almost all file extensions on my members server were .shtml before I moved back to plain .htm yesterday as noticed the server side includes aren't enabled anymore on this server.
is it possible to enable ssi again on our members servers?

we are impementing a new authentication system so users dont have to log in 1000x
if you want us to leave your sites on the old system its fine with us
there will be bugs then new things are launched.
please check your readers site now for SSI
and like i mentioned before you are lucky SSI was enabled because by default andf going forward for new sites it will be off to prevent stress on he servers. we provide basic hosting, not full fledged hosting.
we need to watch our costs. we provide enough as it is.

sorry to hear that.
you can host your membersareas on your preview server till it's fixed. but you need to change the login info on your preview sites.
all movie links on AB movieservers are password protected so there should be no prob with that and according to this thread it's allowed:
http://www.ezpimp.com/showthread.php?t=1639&highlight=mysql
hope this helps
