Hi guys.
A bit of market research really.
The question is: If you went to a site that had most of the page in Flash, with funky bits of animation and groovy things happening when you clicked on things, would you be more likely to sign up, or would you view it as a waste of time and bandwidth?
Thanks peeps,
Blum
Do not make your whole site in flash.....
If you do....make 2 versions of it....
Flash is only good if you know all of your users are on broadband....
and not all people who download porn are on broadband.....

Well I'm way too lazy to make 2 versions, so it looks like it's html and a bit of javascript!
*throws Flash in the bin*
Bad Flash, bad BAD Flash.
*gets Flash back out of the bin when nobody's looking*
Heh, well it was expensive!

Flash is the future. However webmasters all have their oppinions and think there way is the best. For some reason adult webmasters tend live in the darkages and anyone trying something new is always shit on. I've seen some really cool designed adult sites. But I have to admit that having two verions would be best. But since you said you're too lazy to do two versions of the site I guess the point is kinda mute now.
I have been wanting for a long time to do a flash version as an alternative. Flash if done well is way more attractive and eye catchy.
Perv...
speaking of which my site will have a flash version in a few weeks
if i ever get off my ass.....

not really. all of my sites have been done in flash. after the sites done. select all....then export preview......then select jpg...then set to between 80-95% depending on the extent of graphics i can usually get it to load in in 20-39 seconds on a 28k modem.
most are running on 56k but even if your 56k is running slow you already know your going to experiernce drag
(edit)
oh...wait i was thinking of fireworks....flash is bad....bad dog, bad bad bad....still gathering dust, never used....sorry, i havent slept

If your flash sites are winding up larger than your nonflash sites, you're doing something wrong... I can consistantly make full flash sites half the size of non-flash sites with the same layout. I think Flash is actually a great resource for catering to people not on broadband... it's when you start adding MIDI files or MP3s to your Flash that they start getting unreasonably large...
The Only flash i Like is done by 2advanced Studios (http://www.2advanced.com/flashindex.htm) Their work is amazing.
The problem is not the size the problem is a creator issue...
Most people who use flash have no idea what they are doing. Sure it looks cool and it's smaller but how many people actually know how to make it dynamically download so that ur not getting a big white screen waiting for it to download...not many..
I'd also point out that Macromedia doesn't even have a full flash site....they know better.....it is simply not something that you should use to replace html.....
also....the average surfer doesn't know what flash is until they are forced to download it off a site, even then they may not download it because they think it is some type of dialer or spam......

what? even the creator of the software does not use it?!? kinda odd

this is 300% true. I work in user support at my biz co. and time to time someone call me "Alessandro, hurry! a virus!" and I go to see and there is the warning window to download flash 6 plugin or shockwave.
See, now that thing the BMO showed....now that is what i'm talking about.....
That's good flash design...

Yeah, I had a quick clickety click of the link on BMO's post.
Jawdropping. Absolutely jawdropping. Now if I could do a site that looked like THAT, I wouldn't have to bother asking for opinions!
Well, I have only one vote in favour of Flash, which surprised me.
Up to now my site's done with all html, but of course the problem with that is that it just looks like all the other sites out there!
Anyway, I need to go and do my boring day job now (bleh) so I'll see you all later.
Thanks for your opinions :)

I use flash for like a logo or some moving picture of a video or something, but stay away for the whole site.

Superb.
That kind of thing shows what Flash can do in the hands of creative designers. Oh to be that creative.

Well before i consulted these forums I decided to make my whole site in flash and now I know that it was a bad idea. if you would like to take a look at it and tell me if it is worth while that would be great.
its HERE (http://darkhentai.adultbouncer.com)
Just want to jump in here on two quick points:
Yes, the "Macromedia doesn't build their whole site in Flash" argument has been long standing and very, very good. The fact that Macromedia also holds annual Flash usability contests has always seemed very amusing to me, also.
Second, my biggest complaint about entirely Flash-based sites is that they go against people's instincts and against the very nature of the web. People are used to their browsers performing a certain way, and are used to taking certain actions to get the results they are after. Click on links, hit back, hit forward, etc. What sites designed entirely in Flash force the user to do is re-learn how to use the Internet with every site that they visit, as they have to learn each site's custom and very specific control/navigation scheme. And from what I've learned in the adult game, making the surfer think = bad.
